The six pointed star has, through the ages symbolized to the world that its wearer is a Jew or one of those righteous people who love and support God’s Chosen people.  Its origins are shrouded in the mists of history. In the past, it was not a unique Jewish symbol, but for the past 200 years, it has become associated with Judaism.  It is also a prominent feature in the Kabbalah, Judaism’s codex of mystic law and is associated with the number seven and, by extension, the Menorah.
